19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, took control to create a decider.

He defended 4 early chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
